How did the idea of having a Home Theater System in your own home start?
By Belinda Teska

The idea to invent a create a home theater system came from the desire to recreate that special experience we get in the modern movie theater.

The whole movie experience has changed and the once closed movie theaters are being replaced with large multi screen complex’s which provide state of the art surround sound and picture quality never before experienced by the movie goers of years gone by.

Everything now in the movie seems larger than life on a massive movie screen which in some cases fills a whole wall of the movie theater and the picture size is measured in feet and not inches.Whilst this in itself might not be that revolutionary the advent of surround sound developed by Dolby systems completed the transformation from movie theater to a wonderful new experience of the modern movie expericence which encompasses the very best sound and picture the movie director can create for your enjoyment. No longer do you feel like your just watching a movie you almost feel part of the scene.

With a such a great display of picture and the sound it is little wonder that many people would want to recreate this movie experience on their own home theater screen. Once people started to bring this wonderful experience to their private living rooms through their own home theater system it was only a matter of time before any true movie enthusiast was hooked.

Today is is possible to recreate an totally authentic movie theater visual and sound experience and really feel you are in your own movie theater.

The TV’s of today ranging from a basic widescreen model up to a 70 inch plasma TV costing thousands of dollars make the home theater something which is now available to all budgets and it has gone from being a hobby enjoyed by the super rich and famous in to a mainstream interest enjoyed by many worldwide.

I recal fondly my first Toshiba TV which was equipped with dolby surround sound (before the advent of dolby pro-logic and other innovations) it had an integrated set of stereo speakers and a two surround speakers only but it was a million miles from my first TV which was mono and not even a color picture.

But since that time things have moved on in leaps and bounds and today the whole idea of owning a home cinema set up is as common as owning a home PC .Many households have been content to settle for a basic integrated system created by the DLP , Plasma Screen or LCD TV manufacturers but this is rarely sufficent for the true movie enthusiast.

They look for a complete set up of well balanced and matched individual components to create their audio visual feast. These consist of a good quality Big Screen TV such as a DLP TV set or for those with larger budgets maybe a LCD TV or a wall mounted plasma screen TV these are available from major manufacturers such as Sony,Toshiba,Phillips and Panasonic to get all the latest information check out our big screen TV reviews.

Then add a home theater speaker system from a good quality speaker provider such as those from KEF,JBL,Cerwin Vega, or Bose and other good speaker makers.Make sure you buy the right size of speaker for the size of your room and maybe also consider getting a subwoofer to boost those base sounds for that gut wrenching base of those action movies.

Don’t forget before you enjoy any of this excitement you will need a DVD player but since a pretty good one can be brought for just a few hundred dollars this should not be too much of a problem. If you are not sure what type of DVD player to consider take a look at our Home Theatre DVD Guide. where you find we have looked at DVD players for all budgets.

Provided you have some comfortable seating for your home cinema you are pretty much ready to go. Of course you can add a lighting system with a dimmer to your home theater experience and make it perfect just like a real movie theater or go crazy and dedicate an entire room to your home theater complete with home theater furniture , seating , styling and design the only real limit to what you can achieve is your budget and imagination.

Then, all you need is a big bowl of popcorn, some ice cold sodas from the fridge and you are ready to sit back relax and experience your favourite movies in style! Yor home theater experience will be just perfect, without waiting for tickets, without having to deal with cellphones ringing around as you can make sure yours is turned off or on divert.

No one spoiling the movie for you coughing or talking and not forgetting one of the best things you can stop the movie any time you want to take a break get another beer or soda plus if you want to watch your favorite movie again you just start the DVD player again and you are good to go . What could be better?!
