LG BD 300 Blu ray Player First To Stream Netflix Launches This Fall

The anticipated launch of the LG BD 300 Blu-ray Player will see another first for the increasingly popular format as it will be the first to be able to stream the Netflix on line Watch Now range of movies.
The latest LG Blu-ray was first shown at a New York Press event in August but was then shown to the rest of the industry at the CEDIA Expo 2008 in Denver, Colorado.
The Netflix system is identical to that found in the Roku Netflix Player this allows those with a basic $8.99 subscription an the player can stream from a smaller range of around 12,000 movies (currently Netflix offer in excess of 100,000).
The LG BD 300 also allows a number of other additional useful network features which include streaming of photo’s and not suprisingly music these can be from a suitably networked PC , portable flash drive which plugs neatly in to the USB port.
With regards to the way the LG player handles Blu-ray it will be fully Profile 2.0 which means it is ready to allow the user to access the moree advanced features being made available on more and more Blu-ray disks.
The fore runner to the LG BD 300 the HD-DVD , Blu-ray combo player the BH200 had a number of problems which hopefully will have been addressed in this latest Lg offering but it should be well priced at around $500 or less.
But it’s biggest rivals in this sector of the market will be the Sony’s Ps3 which can of course be used for games, streaming media and Blu-ray and of course the Roku Netflix Player will also put up a strong challenge for the consumers dollar at this difficult financial time.
It is for this reason why it is hard to explain why the LG BD 300 Blu-ray Player is only fitted with a ethernet connnection (which has met with some resistance) whilst it’s rivals feature both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. It remains to be seen how testers see the LG BD 300 Blu-ray player and whether it’s able to survive under harsh market conditions.
