Is The Superbowl a good reason to buy a new TV

Super Bowl XLIV on TV
Image by Mike Licht, NotionsCapital.com via Flickr

As we now know the two teams in this years Superbowl will be between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts who will be competing in Miami on the 7th February 2010 at the Sun Life stadium.

But is this a good time for a home theater upgrade surely it will mean manufacturers will put prices up as demand increases for big events such as the Superbowl.

Well normally I would say that you should never buy equipment at a time of high demand such as christmas or other holiday times as service will likely suffer and you could find that you get a substandard product.

But with the current cash crises you’ll find home theater bargains abound and what better excuse to buy one than to watch the Super Bowl XLIV.

I think this Superbowl could be exciting with New Orleans making an appearance for the first time in 45 years although the Colts are favorites.

Now that could be spectacle whether you watch on a LCD or Plasma or even a projector I have found there are some great deals on eBay (don’t forget check sellers carefully) and Amazon also seem to up their range of deals at this time.

Plus who can resist the half time entertainment and revelation of new TV advertisments which have become a unique opportunity for the manufactures to showcase their biggest and often controversial ads with massive budgets that only a giant audience like Superbowl can justify during these diffiuclt times financially.

Personally I hate commericals (who doesn’t) but some how they are as much part of Superbowl as Gatorade.

If you are having trouble convincing the other half on your purchase and you are old enough to remember them just remind them the half time interval entertainment is The Who with Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend treating to some nostalgia from the 60’s that might just seal the deal.

If not there is always next year?

Building Your Home Theater Can Be A Labour Of Love

One thing when I hear people tell me that they are intending a Home Theater System in a dedicated room in their house is ask them how long do they think the project is going to take.

The reason I ask this is almost every day I get calls and emails from people who tell me they have started a building their home theater project and they have run out cash or the their partner is threatening divorce if they don’t finish it soon.

You see the biggest mistake people make is they assume the project will take half as long (at best estimate) and will be much cheaper than hiring professional home theater installers.

Now to some extent doing a build of basic install of the equipment can be relatively straight forward but still easy to get wrong if you are a complete novice.

But when you take on more ambitious projects such as shown in the video below draw up a very detailed plan and even more detailed costings (taking in to consideration costs can rise if the project drags on)

First and foremost if you are expecting to sell your home in the next 5 years or so forget building a home theater system of this size. Whilst it might fulfill your wildest dreams not every one is a home theater fanatic like we are.

Secondly cost everything even the work if you are doing it yourself.. depending on where you intend to find time to build this project it could still be cheaper to hire pro’s if it means taking time from work or you just don’t have the right skills to do the job.

Thirdly make sure everyone in the family agrees a home theater is a priority. I have a friend who built a very high end home theater system but it nearly cost him his marriage and now no one uses it as his two kids ages 3 and 4 sit watching TV in the family room eating their milk and cookies.

Now I am not saying don’t build your dream home theater system but take my advice set your expectations within your budget and consider this do you want to watch more great movies on a system you can watch in a weekend or do you want to give up many months of movie watching while you build your dream.

Having done both I can tell you neither option is wrong just choose the right one for you at the time.

Here is a Video Of A Home Theater DIY Project to give you some ideas as to what is possible for without breaking the bank with hard work and some skill.

Wireless Speakers For Home Theater Could This Be The Answer For Apartment Owners

Yamaha has been producing audio sound bars for years now, and they’ve been growing increasingly popular in homes where size is a problem. I have to say I don't really understand why but maybe because I have never lived in a small apartment. Apartments and one-bedroom studios haven’t until recently manufacturers clain been able enjoy true surround sound due to the inability to shove 5, 6 or more speakers into their cramped living space.
